Google reconsideration

The Google search engine is regarded as the fastest and most accurate search engine on the net. This alone is enough to make Google my favorite website. The way Google rank sites are quite complex, and this will be the topic now.

My old page was never ranked very high in Google, so when I started to make this one I wanted to follow any advice I could find to get a better ranking. The search engine is roughly based on the following: A robot that crawls the web, looking for pages, called Googlebot. The bot request thousands of pages simultaneously, and ships the page to the indexer. Any links the crawler finds will be added to a list of future sites to check out. The indexer stores, sorts and filters the data from the pages. Allowing the Query processor to quickly find the relevant information, and show it to us. How important a site is depends on its PageRank. This value is computed from over a hundred factors, and many of the algorithms are well guarded secrets. One important factor is how many, and the quality of, other sites that link to yours. The whole thing gets quite complicated, and much has been written on the subjectWebworkshop - Google's PageRank.

Google also has a set of guidelines, called Webmaster guidelinesGoogle Webmaster Guidelines, which contains advice regarding design, content and quality. I believe my page is following these guidelines, and that it should achieve a relatively good PageRank. The only problem is that it has 4 years of reputation of being a poorly designed page. It will take a very long time for the engine to clear out all the bad comments and see my site with new eyes. Fortunately, Google has thought of this, and implemented a possibility to get your site re-evaluated, or Google reconsideration as the service is calledGoogle reconsideration. I have applied for a reconsideration, and hopefully Google will see that my page is better now, and give it a better PageRank.
