This week I challenge you to a writing test. How fast can you write? Also, there is some funny Google Streetview images, and of course: Dilbert.

105 Ord

Ellen recently started a project for a statistics course, where she will study which parameters influences how fast you write. In order to test this she uses a fun website that has typing speed tests for many different languages. If you want to try and beat my score, just click the image on the right and have a go. Post your results in the comments. Ellen says this about her experiment:

The parameters I want to investigate are gender, if you're sleepy or not, vocabulary and whether you need to look at the keyboard when you type. I suspect that sleepy people will under-perform, while those unfamiliar with the words (bad vocabulary) will perform poorly. I can not really check peoples vocabulary, but in the test people will have to transcribe Romanian, and in that way be challenged with words they can not easily recognize. I don't really think gender will play an important part, but it still may have an impact because men are more inclined to compete.

Google Streetview

It's been some years since Google Streetview started. Streetview is a service that allows you to enter a street in Google Maps, and move around as if you were in a car. A car has driven there, taking pictures regularly. Initially only in Japan and USA, the service now covers some of Norway. The car usually attracts some attention, both good and bad. About a week ago Dagbladet posted an article about a rather special situation. Look at the animation below.

What I've done is taking screenshots of StreetviewGoogle Streetview - angry scuba-men!, compiling them in this animation. I think it came out rather well. The two men later admitted that the situation was staged, and that they knew the driver of the car, but I still think it is a funny story.
